Lee Jun-ki says is looking forward to life as average man

Korean actor Lee Jun-ki has revealed his feelings about going to the military next week, saying he is "looking forward to spending time [in the military] as any average man who has to fulfill his mandatory military duties."

Lee was quoted as saying the remark in a press statement released by his agency JG Company on Thursday, the response following the decision which has forced him to drop out of film "Grand Prix" and TV series "Faith".

The actor, who started shooting "Grand Prix" with top Korean actress Kim Tae-hee earlier this month, had been trying to defer his military entrance date to fulfill his current work commitments before joining the two-year service.

But after receiving a final notice from Korea's Military Manpower Administration to join the Nonsan training camp on May 3, Lee announced two days ago that he has decided to pull out from both projects.

JG apologized that Lee was unable to finish what he had been working on.

Lee, 27, gained fame in Korea and throughout Asia after playing a woman-like clown in the 2005 hit film "The King and the Clown" and most recently portrayed a passionate magazine reporter in MBC TV series "Hero".

Korean actor Lee Jun-ki will be leaving for the military next month, leading to a change of cast in a film and drama he was set to appear in before joining the army.

In a phone call with Asia Economic Daily on Wednesday, relevant sources from the film "Grand Prix" and TV series "Faith" said that they were casting an actor to replace Lee since he will be entering the military on May 3.

Last week, Lee's agency JG Company announced that the actor had received a notice from Korea's Military Manpower Administration but asked to defer his entrance date to fulfill his current work commitments before joining the two-year service.

Lee has been shooting "Grand Prix" with top Korean actress Kim Tae-hee since April 2 but it appears that he was unable to delay his military duties as he has now decided to pull out from both projects.

Just like one actor is managed separately with resources concentrated in the manager like Hollywood management style, but instead now all these specialized resources and business management structure will be focused only on Mr Lee Jun Ki. According to Korean media reports, the contract between Korean actor Lee Jun Ki and his management company Mentor Entertainment has ended last month and Lee Jun Ki’s decision in the near future has drawn particular attention from external circles.

Following previous precedence, Lee Jun Ki has 3 choices: renew his contract with Mentor, establish his own management company or pick another management company. As Lee Jun Ki is extremely popular in Asia, his final decision has drawn great attention.

Recently there were rumours that a large entertainment company hoped to sign a contract with Lee Jun Ki for 1 Billion Korean won and also rumours that Lee Jun Ki will establish his own management company. During filming, I received everyone’s well wishes and warm and excited congratulations and I was wondering why. It’s because of the overwhelming love I received from the popularity award…
Each time when I receive an award, I would hold the trophy up high and express my gratitude.
However, this time, I can only do so through a photograph. Today, I am really sorry………. my sincere apologies.
